Radar's own wiktionary board went a full day without minting a new maxx-compound for the first time this week; today it mints "neckmaxx." The pace itself is the story, and it just proved too noisy to call a trend from one day alone.
how language was measured today
language against its own usual level, per 100 reporting sources counted 15:59 UTC
1 day -1.27 8.9 sources a day per 100 reporting, against 15.7 usual
3 days -0.99 16.0 sources a day per 100 reporting, against 18.9 usual
7 days -0.46 18.8 sources a day per 100 reporting, against 20.0 usual
The number is how far this window sits from what this domain normally does, per 100 sources reporting, against the stamped days before it, so a day on which more sources reported does not read as a busier domain. Above zero is busier than usual , below zero quieter. It says the volume moved; it does not say why, and it is not a share of anything.
This is the counted layer: how much the feeds we read published about language, per source reporting, against what they usually publish. The story above is the heard layer, written from sources. They are kept apart on purpose.
